MultiTech MultiConnect microCell USB cellular modem approved for use on Verizon Network; helps boost compatibility

Multi-Tech Systems Inc., supplier of M2M and IoT communication solutions, has announced that its MultiConnect microCell LTE Category 1 USB cellular modem with dual-carrier capability has been approved for use on the Verizon network. The MultiConnect microCell is part of the comprehensive MultiTech portfolio of cellular connectivity products optimized for the industrial Internet of Things.

Easy to install and configure through AT commands, the MultiConnect microCell is ideal for failover, out-of-band management or as primary internet connection over cellular networks. The MultiConnect microCell can connect any intelligent appliance, and is powered through the USB interface.

The MultiConnect microCell is a compact and simple communications platform that provides cellular capabilities for fixed and mobile applications. It is intended for use in settings such as vending, smart parking, smart inventory tracking equipment and commercial applications.

The MultiConnect microCell is part of the MultiTech comprehensive portfolio of cellular connectivity products optimized for M2M applications. It comes with support for Windows and Linux drivers and is CDC ACM compliant to ensure a plug-and-play experience.

The MultiConnect microCell has one USB communication port which is also used for power, and external SMA connectors to accommodate two external antennas for cellular connectivity. This standalone USB-to-cellular device supports 4G-LTE Cat 1 technology and is intended to provide basic cellular communication and security, such as SSL/TLS 1.2 or higher. It relies heavily on the asset to provide advanced firewall and networking capabilities such as private tunneling, MAC filtering and SNMP.

A compact communication platform, the MultiConnect microCell provides LTE Category 1 cellular capabilities with optional 3G fallback for fixed and mobile applications. It is ideal for use in settings such as remotely monitoring solar micro-inverters, power generators, tanks, pipelines, meters, pumps and valves in any energy, utility, or industrial application.

MultiTech designs, develops and manufactures communications solutions for the industrial internet of things – connecting physical assets to business processes to deliver enhanced value.  The MultiConnect microCell has also been qualified by professionals in vending and renewable energy systems.

“This approval makes it easier for customers preferring a choice of carriers in order to ensure the best available connection wherever they deploy across the U.S.,” said Paul Elko, senior product marketing manager at MultiTech. “Now they can program the microCell for either AT&T or Verizon, realizing the benefit of dual carrier support for improved coverage ubiquity.”

In May, MultiTech introduced mPower Edge Intelligence, an embedded software offering, building on its application enablement platform, which delivers programmability, network flexibility, enhanced security and manageability for scalable IIoT solutions.

mPower represents the unification and evolution of MultiTech smart router and gateway firmware platforms. In addition to ongoing support of the current feature-sets, MultiConnect rCell 100 Series customers now have access to the programmability of MultiConnect Conduit gateway, while gateway customers can enjoy additional security features currently available on the rCell.

mPower Edge Intelligence simplifies integration with a variety of upstream IoT platforms to streamline edge-to-cloud data management and analytics, while also providing programmability and processing capability to execute critical tasks at the edge of the network to reduce latency; control network and cloud services costs, and ensure core functionality – even in instances when network connectivity may not be available.
