ZTE aligns with Qualcomm, Wearsafe to bring IoT devices for personal security tracking solutions

ZTE USA,, alongside Qualcomm Technologies and Wearsafe, work to bring ZTE’s hardware, Wearsafe’s personal security software platform, and the Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 1100 platform together for personal security tracking solutions.

The integrated solution will be a discrete wearable device that is designed to connect the consumer to third parties such as first responders, monitoring companies and family almost instantly through a push of a button, providing increased peace-of-mind in unpredictable situations.

The relationship will grant ZTE the ability to integrate Wearsafe’s mobile personal emergency response systems (mPERS) software into mobile devices, using the Snapdragon Wear 1100 platform which is designed for the next generation of targeted-purpose wearable segments where consumers are demanding a simple, security-rich, scalable and superior connected experience.

This platform excels in meeting these requirements with low power features such as Power Save Mode (PSM), cutting-edge compact packages, and next gen LTE Cat 1 modem with global band support. The cloud-based mPERS software, integrated into LTE-connected IoT devices, can collect and transmit critical user information to third parties at the user’s discretion.

“ZTE and Qualcomm Technologies have had a long-standing relationship to bring new, innovative products and solutions to development,” said Pankaj Kedia, senior director, product management, Qualcomm Technologies. “With today’s announcement, we will be adding to the smartphones and smartwatches we have launched in the past. The smart tracker solutions, based on the Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 1100 platform, will be designed to deliver virtually always connected Cat 1 based personal trackers with extended battery life and sleek form factors. We are looking forward to bringing a product to operators in the U.S. and globally over time.”

“The work between ZTE, Qualcomm Technologies and Wearsafe will create the next generation of personal safety solutions through a small wearable device,” said Jeff Yee, VP of Product Marketing and Strategy of ZTE Mobile Devices. “A connected personal tracking solution is yet another untapped IoT market and a need from consumers that has not been fulfilled.  ZTE looks forward to creating its first-ever personal security device and bringing the solution to market.”

“Our partnership with ZTE is another important step in our journey to expand our mobile IoT security platform and provide personal safety to even more global users,” said David Benoit, CEO and co-founder of Wearsafe Labs.  “By combining ZTE’s best-in-class wireless hardware with Wearsafe’s leading software platform, we are now able to provide an unsurpassed end-to-end personal safety solution to our wireless carrier customers and their subscribers.  This partnership continues our disruption of the personal safety category by truly offering ‘safety without limits.”

Wearsafe provides users with a cloud-based personal safety service that moves beyond creating a device that sounds an alarm or sends location information to a concerned third party. Wearsafe is a software platform that stores and records information about the user’s situation, including location, how fast a user is travelling and any available audio information for greater context.
