Skyworks enables ZTE’ s connected car offering to leverage multiple LTE, Wi-Fi connectivity devices

Skyworks Solutions, a provider of high performance analog semiconductors connecting people, places and things, announced Thursday that ZTE is incorporating various products from its portfolio to power several of their all-in-one platforms for the connected car. Skyworks’ LTE and connectivity solutions help transform cars into rolling Wi-Fi hotspots, enabling vehicle tracking, diagnostics, safety and security features.

To support the numerous wireless protocols and frequency bands required by advanced wireless networks, ZTE’s system relies on Skyworks’ integration expertise to deliver a comprehensive solution.

“With the inclusion of Skyworks’ high performance devices, we are able to offer customers a seamless connected car solution,” said ZTE management. “We are pleased to partner with Skyworks to fulfill our vision of bringing premium products to market at an affordable price.”

“Skyworks’ partnership with ZTE for their connected car applications is a good example of how we are extending our product reach into new markets, further expanding our addressable content in some of the world’s most exciting wireless communications platforms,” said Carlos Bori, vice president of sales and marketing for Skyworks. “With our latest solutions, Skyworks continues to differentiate and capitalize on the incredible opportunities across the Internet of Things, including the connected vehicle.”

According to a 2017-2025 forecast from Transparency Market Research, on-board diagnostics are expected to see the fastest growth within the connected car, as these ports provide direct access to the internal, most sensitive and critical systems in an automobile.

BI Intelligence estimates that connected car revenue from providing these types of systems will grow at a compounded annual growth rate of 29 percent globally from 2015 to 2020.

Skyworks Solutions announced last month that its SkyOne Ultra 2.5 and diversity receive (DRx) modules for mobile applications have been adopted by some of the world’s leading machine-to-machine (M2M) module manufacturers to provide high performance, high speed 4G LTE capability. These fully integrated and tested systems, packaged in extremely small form factors, enable M2M suppliers including Fibocom, Sierra Wireless, and Telit to extend plug and play, high-speed cellular connectivity across an endless array of Internet of Things (IoT) products and applications — in any global region and on any wireless network.

SkyOne Ultra 2.5 covers over 20 LTE frequency bands in a complete front-end solution; inclusive of power amplification, duplex filtering and antenna switching.

Skyworks’ DRx improves receiver sensitivity and cell edge performance while addressing all major downlink carrier aggregation combinations. This highly differentiated solution integrates low noise amplification, receive filtering, and band switching. By supporting global and regionally optimized SKUs in the same PCB footprint, these platforms uniquely enable cost-effective, high performance architectures with ultimate flexibility.
