Semtech strengthens its RClamp platform with a TVS array for protecting industrial and telecommunications electronics

Semtech Corp. announced this week latest addition to its RClamp platform. The four-line, 5V RClamp0504FB offers robust electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection and superior surge immunity in an industry standard six lead SC-70 package. This transient voltage suppression (TVS) array offers extensive interface protection versatility with its differentiated performance and small form factor enabling use in data ports for industrial, Internet of Things (IoT) and telecommunication applications.

Exceeding industry standards for ESD immunity, the RClamp0504FB offers a 28A Ipp surge rating and is housed in a compact SC-70 package. This footprint presents hardware designers PCB space savings and the familiarity of an established multi-line package.

RClamp TVS diodes are designed to protect sensitive electronics from damage or latch-up due to transient surge events. This device offers desirable characteristics for board level protection including fast response time, low operating and clamping voltage, and no device degradation.

RClamp0504FB is in a 6-pin, SC-70 6L package. The leads are finished with lead-free matte tin. The combination of small size, low capacitance, and high ESD and EOS surge capability makes them ideal for use in applications such as USB 2.0, multimedia cards, and video interfaces.

The RClamp0504FB offers an extremely low typical capacitance of 1.1pF, making the device well suited for use in high speed differential interfaces. It offers transient protection for high-speed data lines to: IEC 61000-4-2 (ESD) ±30kV (contact), ±24kV (air); IEC 61000-4-4 (EFT) 40A (5/50ns); IEC 61000-4-5 (lightning) 28A (8/20μs); 5V bi-directional working voltage protection; high surge capability: 28A (tp=8/20μs); protects four I/O lines; low capacitance (1.1 pF typical); SC-70 package; and is Pb-free and RoHS/WEEE compliant.

Semtech provides reliable system-level Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) and Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) circuit protection solutions that meet the industry’s toughest requirements. Semtech ESD protection diodes feature low clamping voltage, low capacitance and low leakage current to protect system interconnects from external ESD threats. Semtech’s portfolio of circuit protection products include the RClamp, EClamp, µClamp, and TClamp families of products, among others. “As silicon transceivers continue to scale to smaller geometries, the vulnerability of present day microelectronic devices to overvoltage and surge threats is among the highest it has been in the industry’s history,” said Timothy Puls, product marketing director for Semtech’s Protection Products Group. “The RClamp0504FB is an extremely flexible device that gives hardware engineers an outstanding, versatile solution for protecting a broad range of data interfaces from some of the harshest ESD and surge threats.”

The RClamp0504FB  is available immediately in production quantities. Semtech offers comprehensive design assistance, including field- and factory-based support. Data sheets, volume pricing and delivery quotes, as well as evaluation kits and samples, are available from the company.
