Semtech releases FiberEdge driver for 5G wireless applications to provide performance over industrial temperature range

Semtech announced on Tuesday the availability of the GN1840, a linear 26GBaud, packaged DML driver for 5G wireless applications.

Semtech’s optical networking product platforms provide high-performance signal integrity for optical module solutions used by leading companies in the data center/enterprise networking, wireless infrastructure and passive optical network/Fiber to the X markets.

Transceiver vendors and system integrators recognize the multitude of challenges involved with successfully developing systems based on PAM4 signaling. The GN1840 delivers high bandwidth, low total harmonic distortion (THD) and group delay variation (GDV) that directly translate to optical link margin necessary to help overcome PAM4 related performance obstacles.

Semtech delivers its comprehensive portfolios of optical transceiver IC products ranging from 100Mbps to over 100Gbps, supporting key industry standards such as Fibre Channel, InfiniBand, Ethernet, Common Public Radio Interface (CPRI), Passive Optical Network (PON), Synchronous Optical Networking (SONET), and PCI Express. Semtech is also investing in various technologies to enable communication systems at 400Gbps and beyond.

“The rollout of 5G wireless systems represents a key change in how users and devices access data and computing power,” said Matthew Bolig, Principal Product Line Manager for Semtech’s Signal Integrity Products Group. “Semtech expects to continue to play a leading role in enabling the deployment of 5G technology with our industry-leading, FiberEdge transimpedance amplifiers (TIAs) and laser drivers.”

The GN1840 is a low power, high bandwidth, packaged DML driver that operates over an industrial temperature range. The GN1840’s high bias and modulation current driving abilities make it ideal for 50GBASE-LR and 200GBASE-LR4 applications. The GN1840 is available now with full production targeted for later this year.
