Rambus debuts secure in-field IoT security service with CryptoManager IoT device management

Rambus Inc. launched on Monday its IoT Device Management service as part of its CryptoManager platform. Designed to work with other IoT platforms and cloud service providers, it provides seamless secure connectivity for Internet of Things (IoT) devices along with in-field monitoring and provisioning. Rambus IoT Device Management delivers secure out-of-the-box connectivity to IoT service providers and device manufacturers, while mitigating a variety of attacks and risks, including Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS).

The Rambus CryptoManager IoT Device Management is a turnkey device-to-cloud security solution for IoT devices and services that covers all aspects of IoT device secure connectivity. Our solution is pre-integrated with leading cloud Platform as a Service (PaaS) providers and chipset manufacturers, creating a one-stop shop solution for OEMs and service providers.

The Rambus CryptoManager Trusted Services supports a variety of root of trust configurations via a hardware core or secure software, providing a scalable and flexible security solution. Its solutions support out-of-the-box secure connectivity, key provisioning and device lifecycle management. The CryptoManager IoT Device Management provides a turnkey security solution that protects service high-availability for OEMs and Service providers, while the CryptoManager Trusted Provisioning Services provides local and cloud based infrastructure and provisioning services to support chipmakers, OEMs and Service providers.

By providing a secure foundation for downstream device configuration, chipmakers have the flexibility needed for post-manufacturing inventory management and service providers have a trusted path to consumers for feature enablement and service delivery in applications including secure mobile, automotive and IoT segments.

By offering strong device authentication and device-to-cloud secure connection, Rambus IoT Device Management protects high availability of service and helps mitigate DDoS attacks. Rambus IoT Device Management is a comprehensive solution that provides customers a simple and powerful IoT security solution including out-of-the-box secure connectivity through its first-boot secure connection to automatically provision connected devices over-the-air (OTA); and data protection utilizing encryption and device unique keys.

It also offers cyber disaster recovery and routine certificate refresh and device management including decommissioning and re-assigning of services, reduces the risk of remote device hijack attacks, and mitigates against application layer DDoS attacks in an attempt to make an online service unavailable by overwhelming it with traffic from multiple sources masquerading as legitimate devices.

“With the billions of anticipated IoT devices, security is fundamental to ensuring uninterrupted connectivity,” said Martin Scott, senior vice president and general manager for the Rambus Security Division. “This service enables us to extend the benefits of our CryptoManager platform in-field with pre-integrated keys in connected devices. We are excited to team with Qualcomm Technologies to showcase this platform and service.”

“By tapping the hardware-based security features in Qualcomm Technologies’ chips, Rambus is able to provide a comprehensive solution that helps customers deploy devices into the IoT ecosystem with robust protection against cyber attacks,” said Jesse Seed, director, product management, Qualcomm Technologies. “This new IoT Device Management service is a simple and security-rich platform designed for a variety of entities including service providers and device manufacturers. Rambus has a long history of security and cryptography, making this solution a great fit to deliver IoT security services across the industry.”
