Macronix debuts ultra-high performance OctaFlash memory, services to power instant-on applications

Macronix International announced on Tuesday its new Ultra-OctaFlash, following its initial launch in 2015. The new ultra-high performance OctaFlash Memory can perform at an operational frequency of 250MHz with 500MB/s read throughput, the fastest in the industry.

This ultra-high performance solution is designed to meet the growing demand for “instant-on” performance and real-time system responsiveness in automotive, industrial and consumer applications.

Macronix’s newly launched ultra-high performance OctaFlash (x8 I/O) Memory can operate at frequencies up to 250MHz with a fast latency access time of 80 nanoseconds (ns), sequential byte reads as fast as 2ns and a maximum read throughput of 500 megabytes per second (MB/s), the fastest in the industry. The ultra-performance OctaFlash Memory can meet the instant-on and interactive graphical user interface (GUI) requirements of next generation electronics.

Macronix’s new ultra-high performance OctaFlash Memory is packaged in an industry standard 24-ball BGA and is backwards compatible with existing quad SPI and dual-quad SPI pin-out patterns, allowing users to migrate and minimizes any significant PCB routing re-design.

With Smartphone adoption on the rise, consumers now expect their modern electronic and digital devices, which are equipped with a graphical user interface, to perform with ultra-fast response times, be portable with instant connectivity, etc. This performance from the new ultra-high performance OctaFlash Memory can help system architects meet their customer expectations.

Furthermore, in the era of the Internet of Things (IoT) and Internet of Vehicles (IoV), the critical requirements for a successful memory solution are memory size, power consumption, and performance; all of which can be realized by the new ultra-high performance OctaFlash Memory.

The new ultra-high performance OctaFlash Memory is manufactured with Macronix’s advanced, high-reliable 55nm process. Samples of 1.8V, 256Mb & 512Mb densities are available now.

Last month, Macronix launched its AEC-Q100 Grade 2/3 compliant NAND flash memory product. With its capabilities in semiconductor design and fabrication, Macronix NAND Flash memory has passed all the stringent AEC-Q100 reliability standards, and becomes the initial AEC-Q100 full compliant NAND flash product supplier for automotive applications.

Macronix’s newly launched NAND Flash adopts its own patented 36nm semiconductor manufacturing technology that overcomes the short life cycle deficiency of NAND flash, which typically occurs with shrinking semiconductor technology nodes, or technology with multiple bits stored in each cell. Testing results indicate that the more bits stored within a single memory cell, the lower the number of P/E Cycles (program/erase cycles), in addition to decreasing the product’s reliability.
