D-Link debuts DSH-G300-TBR Thread Border Router; comes integrated with Silicon Labs’ multiprotocol Wireless Gecko SoC

D-Link and Silicon Labs announced Monday that the DSH-G300-TBR Thread Border Router has passed Thread specification compliance and interoperability testing to become the initial “Built on Thread” certified border router.

Thread’s mesh technology allows the DSH-G300-TBR to connect securely and reliably to the Internet and with a range of smart home products as part of a self-healing mesh network, increasing connection reliability while minimizing power consumption.

D-Link’s Thread Border Router is equipped with Silicon Lab’s multiprotocol Wireless Gecko SoC, supporting Thread, Zigbee, Bluetooth 5, Bluetooth mesh, and proprietary protocols. The DSH-G300-TBR features simplified IP bridging between the mesh network and the Internet with security provided at the network and application layers.

“D-Link and Silicon Labs have proven to be pioneers in the smart home industry with our Thread-certified border router,” said John Lee, CEO of D-Link Corporation. “We plan to continue leveraging Thread’s powerful mesh technology and offer more Thread-certified solutions in the future to accelerate IoT integration and automation in smart homes.”

“We applaud D-Link for achieving this significant IoT milestone by delivering the world’s first Built on Thread certified border router,” said Daniel Cooley, Senior Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer for Silicon Labs. “D-Link is a proven innovator in secure connectivity products, and we are delighted to provide our industry-leading Wireless Gecko technology to enable D-Link solutions across multiple markets and applications.”

D-Link had launched in February its subscription-based, cloud-based network management solution, Nuclias, enabling managed service providers and business owners to remotely configure and monitor their network infrastructures anywhere, at any time.

Nuclias provides a cloud-based management tool without the need for a local controller, reducing cost and complexity while streamlining network infrastructure. It also offers zero-touch provisioning for ease of deployment and scalable architecture to support an unlimited number of devices. Its multi-tenant structure allows deployment across multiple sites and companies, and its advanced traffic report and data analysis tool provide business owners and IT professionals with real-time insights.

Additional features include a secure role-based administration system and auditable change logs, authentication via captive portal, 802.1x, RADIUS server and also supports Facebook and Google login for guest Wi-Fi access, and automated network monitoring.

Last December, The Zigbee Alliance and Thread Group announced the availability of the Dotdot specification over Thread’s IP network. This is the first time developers can use an established, open, and interoperable IoT language over a low-power wireless IP network, which will help unify the fragmented connected device industry and unlock new markets.

Dotdot is the Zigbee Alliance’s universal language for the IoT, making it possible for smart objects to work together on any network. Thread is the Thread Group’s open, IPv6-based, low-power, secure and future-proof mesh networking technology for IoT products. These two organizations have come together to deliver a mature, scalable solution for IoT interoperability that isn’t confined to single-vendor ecosystems or technologies.
